Time Circle (1968-1972)

Time Circle (1968-1972)

Most of the material on this collection was remastered from the original master tapes.
There was never a band quite like Spirit. The group burst forth in 1968 with a mix of psychedelia, jazz, and rock & roll. Drummer Ed Cassidy was already 45 years old, while guitarist Randy California, his stepson, was only 17. Spirit's self-titled debut spawned a minor hit, "Mechanical World," a track that was unlike anything else on the radio then or since its time. The group's second album, THE FAMILY THAT PLAYS TOGETHER, was propelled onto the charts with the help of the single "I Got a Line on You." THE TWELVE DREAMS OF DR. SARDONICUS, two albums later, is a classic work that has remained popular for years. Unfortunately, the band also began splintering at that time. Spirit reformed sporadically during the '90s around mainstays Cassidy and California, the latter of whom drowned in 1997. The two discs that make up TIME CIRCLE follow the band from 1968 to 1972 and include all the popular songs, significant album tracks, forgotten nuggets, and rarities. This is the place to start for an introduction to Spirit.
