Romantic Times [Remastered]
Personnel: Lewis Baloue (vocals, guitar, keyboards, synthesizer); Neil Armstrong (saxophone); Dan Lowe (drums).
Audio Remasterer: John Baldwin .
Liner Note Author: Jack D. Fleischer.
Recording information: Thunder Road Studios, Calgary.
The sophomore album of languid romantic pop from obscure Canadian crooner Lewis, Romantic Times follows up the reissue of Lewis' debut, L'Amour. A true record-bin phenomenon, Randall Wulff aka Lewis recorded these albums in the early '80s and subsequently disappeared off the pop music radar. If L'Amour revealed him to be a quirky if charismatic crooner somewhere in between Bryan Ferry and Scott Walker, Romantic Times does little to dissuade from such an opinion. Imagine if Ferry recorded an album of Latin, R&B, and orchestral-sounding ballads produced by synth-centric film director/composer John Carpenter and you won't be far off from the sound Lewis achieved here. ~ Matt Collar
