Live at Electrical Audio

Live at Electrical Audio

Personnel: David Bazan (vocals); Eric Elbogen, Andy Fitts (vocals, guitar, keyboards); Blake Wescott (vocals, guitar); Casey Foubert (drums, percussion).
Audio Mixer: T.W. Walsh.
Recording information: Electrical Audio, Chicago, IL (10/28/2009).
Photographer: Caleb Palma.
Live at Electrical Audio finds David Bazan playing tracks from his solo debut, Curse Your Branches, as well as selections from Pedro the Lion's four albums. Bazan was always the unquestioned leader of Pedro the Lion, serving as the group's one constant member while receiving backup from a rotating group of musicians, and he's similarly in charge of this live recording. Blake Wescott and Casey Foubert, both members of Pedro the Lion's alumni group, are among those who join him here, resulting in an album that's nearly flawless in its execution. This being a studio performance, there's no real audience interaction to speak of, and some of the songs are virtually indistinguishable from their studio counterparts. Bazan is obviously excited to tackle the tunes live, though, having only released Curse Your Branches several weeks prior, and hearing how well his solo material stacks up against Pedro the Lion's catalog should be enough enticement for fans. ~ Andrew Leahey
