Although she emulates and resembles in style the great jazz singers of the '40s and '50s, vocalist and pianist Diane Schuur doesn't just reanimate the classic jazz songbook; she expands it by also bringing modern pop songs into the fold, and in her three-decade career, she has tackled songs from nearly every corner of the popular music landscape. For this set she pays homage to her two main mentors, Stan Getz and Frank Sinatra, backed by a stellar session band of Alan Broadbent (piano), Ben Wolfe (bass), Ulysses Owens, Jr. (drums), Romero Lubambo (guitar), Roni Ben-Hur (guitar), and Joel Frahm (saxophone). ~ Steve Leggett
