I Ain't Movin'

I Ain't Movin'

Personnel: Des'ree (vocals); Ashley Ingram (guitar, piano, Fender Rhodes, keyboards, bass, drums, programming, background vocals); Jeff Smith (guitar, keyboards, percussion, programming); Peter Lord Moreland (guitar, keyboards); T-Bone Wolk, Prince Sampson, Jimmy Haynes (guitar); Tracy Wormworth (bass); Rocky Bryant (drums); Norman Hedman, Thomas Dianni, Bashiri Johnson, Harry Morgan (percussion); Kevin Clarke, Peter Moshay (programming); Michael Sinclair (background vocals).
Producers: Ashley Ingram, Des'ree, V. Jeffrey Smith, Peter Lord Moreland, Mark "Spike" Stent.
Engineers include: Peter Moshay, Jeff Smith, Charlie Smith.
Des'ree delivers a cool serving of dance, jazz-inflected R&B and pop on I AIN'T MOVIN'. The album is a mature, insightful collection of self-penned songs, with a subtle underlying social agenda. Des'ree can be "bolder, badder, and wiser," but she can also be cool, calm and introspective.
The British singer/songwriter gently moves through several stylistic changes. "Little Child," which grieves for the plight of the world's children, boasts a percussive flamenco direction. "Crazy Maze" seemingly identifies Joni Mitchell as a major influence, while the rich, throaty "Feel So High" sounds like Joan Armatrading was an inspiration. The uplifting, yet pragmatic "Living In The City" yields to the inspirational spirituality of "In My Dreams." Throughout, Des'ree's vocals are lushly textured, deep and riveting.
There's a loose, funky tranquility to her music; and I AIN'T MOVIN', Des'ree's sophomore album, is further indication that she has a strong career ahead of her.
