A down-and-out boxer (Best Actor Wallace Beery) hoping for a comeback tries to trick his faithful young son into staying with his mother who has remarried a wealthy man. The boy runs away from his new home in order to rejoin his dad who finally has a legitimate bout set up in Mexico. Frances Marion's script won a Best Original Screenplay Oscar and the film was nominated for Best Picture and Director (King Vidor).
