Bright Yellow Bright Orange

Bright Yellow Bright Orange

The Go-Betweens: Robert Forster (vocals, acoustic & electric guitars, piano, organ); Grant McLennan (vocals, acoustic & electric guitars); Glenn Thompson (electric guitar, organ, keyboards, drums, background vocals); Adele Pickvance (keyboards, bass, background vocals).
Recorded at Sing Sing Studios, Melbourne, Australia & Paradise Studio, Sydney, Australia in 2002.
Proof that the Go-Betweens' 2000 reunion album, THE FRIENDS OF RACHEL WORTH, was no fluke, BRIGHT YELLOW, BRIGHT ORANGE finds Robert Forster and Grant McLennan presenting a charming set that largely consists of laid-back, acoustic-oriented tunes. While the previous outing featured the revered Australian duo backed by members of Sleater-Kinney, this record sees the Go-Betweens gelling into a stable line-up rounded out by bassist Adele Pickvance (who appeared on some of RACHEL WORTH's tracks) and drummer Glenn Thompson. Although BRIGHT YELLOW may seem unassuming at first, repeated listens reveal a beautifully assured collection of indie-pop songs that includes the vibrant "Caroline and I," the subdued "In Her Diary" (sort of an "Eleanor Rigby" for the Sub Pop set), the lively "Old Mexico," and the gorgeously melancholy closer, "Unfinished Business."
